Geologist Stephen L. Goczel journeyed from Goongarrie to Lake Carey to Cue in 1894, examining the country for mineral possibilities. Today, Goczels Track can be followed, while not entirely contiguously, close to the historical route.
Goczel was one of the pioneers of Kanowna. He was a mining engineer and metallurgist and in 1894 he served as the Assistant Government Geologist of Western Australia.
