Hunt’s Well at Moorine Rock was refurbished in June 2021 by Members of the Cockburn 4WD Club and the Mitsubishi 4WD Owners Club. Cockburn 4WD Club has adopted the Explorers’ Wells and Tracks Project as one of their own.
Small trees (not much more than saplings) close to the well that would present an issue in the not-to-distant future were removed. It was feared that the roots of these trees would damage the stone wall of the well. The roots of one or two that were removed were already very close to the wall.

- Moorine Rock Well was built by C.C. Hunt’s team in 1865 as part of a series of wells installed at regular intervals between York and the Hampton Plains. Saplings whose roots could potentially damage the stone wall of the well were removed.
The well was dug out until water was reached. The soil from the bottom of the well was used to replace the bunding around the well that had eroded away.
