The Hyden Norseman Road was realigned to its current route in the 1980s. The current road from the intersection with Victoria Rock Road is the ‘new’ alignment. The ‘start’ of the Old Hyden Norseman is now 5.6 kilometres north of that intersection.

The Old Hyden Norseman Road traverses 86 kilometres from Victoria Rock Road to the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway, 25 kilometres north of Norseman.
It is not maintained and is deteriorating over time. Numerous parts of the country through which it is routed are low lying and subject to inundation after only a reasonably small rain event.
The Mundale Track leaves the Old Hyden Norseman Road to the north, 34 kilometres from the start.
Very few reasons to tackle the complete Old HNR other than to say BTDT.
