This lake, incorrectly shown as Lake Eva on many maps, was named Eva Lake in 1901 by the indefatigable bushman/explorer Frank Hann after Mrs Eva Stanbough. It first appeared on Exploration Plan 85.
In May 1923 Robert Rothkehl and Ernest claimed that they had struck oil at this lake. A company was floated and shares were sold. The scandalous sensation that followed this hoax is recounted on the Outback Family History Blog.
